The Students are Blogging Away!

Nineteen Pangaea Project participants landed in Ecuador at 2am on July 16th and are deep into their adventure. The students comprise two groups traveling independently for the first 3 weeks of their trip, and coming together for the second 2 weeks at their homestay village. Click on the "blog" button above and read their initial impressions of Quito, the Amazon, and the Intag region. And please consider leaving a comment! It's often helpful for the students to know that they have support and followers back in the United States. For those in the Portland area, we will be arranging a welcome back brigade at the airport on August 16th. Stay tuned for details...

Our Mission

By engaging teenagers from underserved neighborhoods in local and international service-learning projects, The Pangaea Project promotes the development of leadership skills, increases global awareness, and fosters a commitment to work towards social change, profoundly transforming both the participants and their communities.

What We Do

The Pangaea Project empowers youth from low-income families to become effective "changemakers" in their community and the world.  Each year, a new cohort of high school students participates in our core classroom experience, overseas journey, and graduate leadership program, combining local and international service-learning projects.

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and with staff in Ecuador and Thailand, our unique model of education provides once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for disadvantaged youth to learn about local and global issues related to solidarity, human rights, social change and community organizing.

Special Announcement

May 21, 2010

Due to escalating violence and unrest in Bangkok, The Pangaea Project has made the difficult decision to re-route our Thailand group to Ecuador in July. This decision creates both disappointment and additional financial pressure for our organization, but the safety of our students is always our first priority. Please join us in holding positive thoughts for peace and well-being in Thailand.

Read the U.S. Department of State's Thailand Travel Warning.

Our staff is now working overtime so that those students headed to Thailand can be re-routed to join our group in Ecuador. Flights must be canceled and re-booked. Additional in-country staff must be hired. There are major costs associated with these changes.

Your DONATION today will matter in a very real way. Click here to make a meaningful GIFT.
