Current Participants
Each Pangaea team is composed of 8 to 12 participants who attend our partner schools. Although the make-up of our student teams changes each year, generally we serve the following population:
- Over 85% of participants qualify for free or reduced lunch
- 75% live at or below 30% of median family income with all participants living below 80% of median family income
- Over 90% of participants attend alternative high schools
- Students represent diverse ethnic backgrounds (2009 participants: 5% Native American, 11% Latino, 11% Asian American, 21% African American, 52% Caucasian)
- 90% of students begin the program with significant barriers to success such as placement in foster care, a history of substance abuse, family substance abuse, gang involvement, experience with the criminal justice system, homelessness or unstable housing, or academic skills well below grade level.
